Defeat Temptation!

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything, worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Your mind is one of the most potent weapons and greatest treasure you have in life. It can be used to make you feel like a winner or to make you feel like an idiot. It is also a vulnerable organ where you are vulnerable to temptation, but when we use it wisely, it can help us overcome temptations. Every human being (whether saved or not) is faced with temptation at a time or the other. The difference between the two is their disposition to what faces them and their response to it.

Anytime your mind is occupied with something that doesn’t serve you, it will be encouraging to apply the law of replacement that says “Overcome Evil with Good.” (Romans 12:21). In other words, you defeat evil thoughts by thinking of something good. Sometimes, you need to physically leave a tempting situation such as negative discussion, the group with atrocities, electronic gadgets that disrupted your holiness, and others. When you do this, your mind becomes more focused on the good things instead of focusing on the bad things.

It’s sacrosanct to avoid things, people, and situations that entangle you as much as possible and keep your mind busy pondering good things. Don’t allow Satan to tempt you into doing things that are not good for your soul. It is better to be preoccupied with good things that will bring you joy than with evil things that will make you miserable at the expense of your soul. If you want life to be filled with peace, love, and joy, don’t open the door of your mind for negative thoughts.

Likewise, don’t let your mind become empty because an empty mind is prone to an evil trap that can lead you to sin. Instead, fill it with positive thoughts and ideas to help you in your journey towards God’s kingdom. If you desire to become more like Jesus Christ, don’t let your mind wander in the land of temptation. Romans 13:13 says, “Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.”

Prayer:
1. Help me, Lord, to be obedient to your words.
2. In the name of Jesus Christ, I receive divine help to overcome every temptation I face.
