Sekhel, A Sense of Excellence!

Sekhel-Sense of Excellence!

“Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.” Proverbs 19:11

Sekhel is a Hebrew term that means “excellent sense” or “discretion,” one of the Wise’s distinguishing features. A sensible personality is calm and capable of resolving conflicts. A patient or self-controlled person is regarded as better than the powerful. They can think quickly on their feet and make sound decisions. This makes them highly effective leaders and problem-solvers.

A sense of excellence is a golden treasure and the hallmark of a truly successful person. It is something that can be cultivated through learning, hard work, and determination, and it is what separates the greats from the rest. Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. This quality allows them to succeed in any situation because others will view them as reliable and trustworthy. By having this mindset, individuals can build relationships of trust, which are essential in any business or professional setting.

Proverbs 14:29 says, “People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.”

Being slow to anger, beloved does not imply that one is a fool; rather, because of one’s discretion, such a person will manage a situation with patience and mercy, therefore, be seen as intelligent. Of course, circumstances may make you lose your sense of purpose, damage your reputation, feel angry and resentful, but brethren, let us always find a way to forgive and reconcile. As Ephesians 4:32 instructed us, saying, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

The Bible says above all to keep loving one another earnestly. When we forgive, we show a sense of excellence. This is because forgiving takes control of our temper and allows for reconciliation. We need to remember that love covers a multitude of sins. Remember to have a sense of excellence is not a singular act but a continuous practice habit. Ephesians 4:26 says, “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.”

Prayer
1. Father, I thank you for the virtue of discretion; let the spirit of discretion abide with me every day.
2. Dearest God, fill me with your grace and discretion that I may grow in your light, love, and peace. Lead me by your light to always know where you are headed in Jesus’ name. Amen
