The Essence of a Broken Heart!

The Essence of a Broken Heart!

“My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” Psalm 51:17

People have different opinions and views on what we call a broken heart, but looking at a broken heart before God is different. It is an experience of godly sorrow, a repentant heart that is sold out to Jesus. A broken heart feels terrible about something on account of one’s sin; before it had hope for itself, now it has come to the awareness that by little strength, can not prevail.

A non-broken heart or repentant heart before could listen to the truth of the gospel without being moved, but now it quivers with emotion. A broken and contrite heart is a sacrifice to God. It is an offering unto the Lord, which cannot be despised. We can also term it to be an open confession. Our faith declares that we are no longer belong to the world but Christ, and it must not be taken lightly.

Proverb 28:13 says, “People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.”

Confessing sins openly is a broken heart; admitting the need for help is out of a contrite heart. Another essence of approaching God with a broken and contrite heart is to see God and each of his promises to come to fulfillment over our life. Mathew 5:8 says Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

We cannot live like the wicked and unrighteous, then expect grace to abound in us. When we need what we don’t have, approaching the throne of mercy with a broken and contrite heart will trigger the answer to our prayers. Because through the brokenness of heart before God, our spirit becomes connected to the throne of grace. Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.”

Prayer:
1. Lord Jesus, let the grace of being completely sold out be granted to me in Christ.
2. Oh Lord, let your saving grace will locate the ungodly and position them for an unforgettable visitation in Jesus name. Amen
