The Fear of God!

The Fear of God!

“Saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” Revelation 14:7

Fear God in the passage above is not about the physical and mental state of fear we have in our hearts but rather about the spiritual state of fear that called our mind to wisdom. It is a state of fear that analyzed God’s power and authority over what He has created through his creation. This is the condition of fear that John expatiated in his revelation.

To live in a state of fear is not God’s will but of humanity’s nature. Humankind can never be truly free from fear. Even though when God didn’t create fear around us, yet we still create fear in ourselves. Nation to nation terrorized each other by the forces of evil. While everyone is afraid of each other, then fear becomes a natural reaction to safety and security.

Mathew 10:28 says, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

God didn’t create us to live in fear but of boldness and love for one another. However, the state of fear that John was referring to is a state of mind that does not allow us to live a life like God didn’t exist. It’s a call to action that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and wisdom is needed to turn away from evil and lead us in the right direction.

Remember, the fallen of Babylon is the lack of fear of God which is the beginning of wisdom. It’s the lack of understanding that leads to sin, which God didn’t want us to follow suit. The revelation through John calls our mind towards the truth of God. Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts gain rich understanding. His praise endures forever!”

Prayer:
1. Dear Jesus, thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness towards me.
2. Lord, give me the wisdom to differentiate the good from the bad.
3. Help Lord, help me not to drink and eat of the passion of immorality and lust in Jesus’ name.
