The Power of Conviction!

The power of Conviction!

“But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or wine. So he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself” Daniel 1:8

God commanded the Israelites not to eat food or drinks offered to the gods of the pagans. Daniel followed this commandment even when they were captured into another land. The food and drinks that the king drank were offered to their gods, and Daniel would not accept this because he determined to do what was right.

Determination is the key element of decision-making. Daniel did not change the mindset he brought from his land, even if that was the only food offered to them. If he took the food, nobody would know, and it will not show on him, but he still did not compromise to eat food offered to gods. He stood strong on his conviction and would not change his mind.

Romans 12:11 says, “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”

Remember, refusing the food also means insulting the king. But he stood for what God stood for and was against what God is against. He was not afraid for what they had to say or the punishment that might come from it. He was later rewarded for his convictions. Not only that but he was given good health because, at the end of ten days probation, Daniel was looking better and healthier than those eating and drinking the good food from the king. He was promoted and preserved in a foreign land, and he prospered in many ways.

Do you have convictions that you think are not achievable because the surrounding circumstances are tempting? Be firm in your faith and convictions of God. Know what you believe in and stand by it. You will be faced with temptations and distractions, but you have to be strong in your love for God and His ways. Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

Prayer:
1. Help me to not compromise to temptations and stand for you in everything I do, Lord.
2. Lead me, oh Lord, and let me be strong in my faith and convictions to your word in Jesus’ name. Amen!
