The Power of Your Mind! 3

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2

Have you discovered the power of your mind? Or have you found a way to maximize the use of your mind? Because the power of the mind cannot be overestimated. The mind defines you, makes you, and molds you. Therefore, your mind needs to be well-nourished with the right ingredients for you to enjoy its great power. As we discussed in the other part of the devotion, your mind is one of your most powerful tools. It can help you achieve your goals and dreams if you take care of it and feed it the right things. The mind is like a muscle; it needs to be exercised and nurtured to achieve great things.

There are basically two types of minds: the Natural and Spiritual mind (Romans 8:6-7), and we will consider them in detail later in our devotional. Great power lies in an individual’s mind and can be seen in the form of creativity, discernment, perception, critical thinking and reasoning, supernatural knowing, and many more. But it depends on which mind you value the most. Remember, we have the power of choice at our disposal because, with our mind, we make the choice that makes us; we can conceive the biggest dream we can ever imagine, attain the greatest height and position we desire, and change the world around us if we make the right choice.

1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

There is a big distinction between the natural mind and the spiritual mind. The natural mind is the part of the mind that is focused on the material world. It is the part of the mind concerned with the body, the physical environment, and worldly possessions. The natural mind is an interesting part of the human mind, but how we use it has made it become something else entirely. That’s why Roman 8:7-8 says, “the mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so, and those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”

When we are in the natural mind, we tend to get into trouble and allow the devil to manipulate our mind to control our thoughts which are not good for us. Therefore, if we don’t want our minds controlled by the devil but have a good relationship with God, we must control our natural desires and focus on things that please Him. However, the Bible also tells us that we can be freed from the power of the flesh through Jesus Christ. If we submit to Him, He will help us overcome our sinful nature and live a life that pleases God. Colossians 2:8 says, “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”

Prayer:
1. Any power that might want to manipulate your mind or influence your thoughts, feelings, and actions in a wrong way shall be destroyed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
2. May God keep you in perfect peace as your mind trusts in Him in Jesus’ name, Amen.
