Unguided Excitement!

Unguided Excitement!

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” Proverbs 25:28

Everyone has the right to be excited and happy, especially after a harrowing experience. The scripture told us, “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” So when this morning finally comes after a long night, we must be happy. A congratulatory message and gift from people to celebrate our victory even steps the excitement higher, but how we react in this ecstatic state is what makes the difference.

However, we all know that anger is disastrous if not properly managed, but we will see that unguided excitement is not much better in today’s devotion. If not adequately addressed, excessive excitement can ruin things. As we can see in Hezekiah’s story when received the gift sent to him by the son of Baladan. The king of Judah, Hezekiah, got carried away and began to reveal his secrets to the people that soon become his enemies.

Isaiah 39:6 says, “Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon, nothing shall be left, says the Lord.”

King Hezekiah took the Babylonians around his treasure house and showed them around his entire kingdom without thinking about the consequences. He was so excited that he went beyond what they expected. He did not think about the implications of his actions, and God told him that since the Babylonians had seen it all, they will surely come back one day to take it all.

Brethren, we all have to be careful about how we expose ourselves to those pretending to be our friends. Not all that comes to you with gifts mean well for you, so we must be wise as a serpent (Matthew 10:16). As children of God, we must always discipline ourselves and put it under control no matter the state we live. 1 John 4:1 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to be wise at all times.
2. Psalm 34:7; May the angel of the Lord guide you in all your ways in Jesus’ name, Amen!
