What are Your Desires? 2

What are Your Desires? 2

“For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” Hosea 6:6

Desires are the process of mind that differentiates us from each other. It is the flames that light up our lives. However, we must be careful not to burn ourselves out with these passions because desire can be the starting point of all achievements or a downfall source toward unhappiness. Desire can be different for each person. It might be the desire for a new car or a bigger house for some. It might be the desire for more knowledge or travel to new places for others. No matter what our desires are, they are important, and they need to evaluate for our benefit and the benefit of others. Remember, desires can define us!

When we desire something, our mind starts churning out possible ways to get it. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the object of our desire. If we desire something good for us, such as getting in shape or learning a new skill, then the process of achieving that desire can be enjoyable. However, if we desire something harmful or destructive, such as drugs or alcohol, then the path to obtaining that desire can be treacherous and full of pain.

Romans 13:13-14 says, “Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Desire is the root of all motivation. What we desire will define who we are, and it might remain as a permanent marker in our life. That’s why in Luke 10:41-42 when Martha was so worried and upset about Mary listening to the word of God. Jesus told Martha, “you are worried and upset about many things, But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.” This is why it is important to understand the ideas of desire. The desires of the flesh will not be satisfied, but the desires of the Spirit will always be fulfilled.

Brethren, what do you desire? Do you desire the things of this world, or do you desire the things of the Spirit? The desires of the flesh will not be satisfied, but the desires of the Spirit will always be fulfilled. Always remember that your desire will define you just as Jesus uses Mary’s heart desires to determine what the future hold for her because ‘wickedness proceeds from the wicked and goodness proceed from the righteous. So, what is it that you desire? Matthew 7:16-17, Jesus said, “By their fruit, you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? So likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.”

Prayers:
1. I bind by fire every evil force, power, and personality behind evil desire in my life.
2. Oh Lord, come and trouble every troublemaker in my life and destroy all their evil desires that they may have towards me in Jesus’ name. Amen
