What is Your Choice? 3

“You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar.” Psalm 139:2

I am sure you can think of many examples where people have made decisions that affect their lives positively or negatively. When we are young, we make most decisions without thinking about the consequences of the actions; however, as we grow older, our mind becomes more aware of what is happening around us.

As the stories of the four lepers in 2 Kings 7 continue to unfold, so does our understanding of the world. We begin to see the world through a different lens. We select what we believe and what we want to believe. This process of making choices becomes more ‘rational choice theory instead of irrational.’ Their first choice was to “enter into the city,” which has nothing to offer them. This decision was made based on the belief in the city mentality.

2 Kings 7:4 says, “It’s no use going into the city because we would starve to death in there; but if we stay here, we’ll die also. So, let’s go to the Syrian camp; the worst they can do is kill us, but maybe they will spare our lives.”

The second choice was to “sit still here.” This could be said to be not much of a choice because to sit still meant certain death. These four lepers have no means of sustaining themselves; they were ostracized from society and left alone, and more so that they will die soon from their disease or hunger. They realized their hopeless situation and asked themselves, “why sitting here till we die (comfort zone)?”

It is this type of question we must ask ourselves when we are stuck in our comfort zone. Asking, “How long can we sit in our comfort zone doing nothing?” It is one of the most important questions you can ask yourself when life is not moving forward. Don’t let anything come over you that you had thought that your life has ended? Come out from that evil thoughts, rebuke the devil and pray out your miracles. Psalm 119:113 says, “The double-minded I despise, but Your law I love.”
