Yet Another Rest! 3

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

There is always excitement in people’s hearts when their works are getting finished. They have a sense of accomplishment that comes in knowing that they will rest after their work is done. But then it hits some people like a ton of bricks when they realized the rest wasn’t enough, and they have to go back to work. O yeah, it’s not easy to get through life without proper rest.

You will hear some bible quotation that sounds like this, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.” (Psalm 55:6). I would fly away from all this trouble and pain. I would fly away from all the misery and make my life better. Not only that, but I would fly away from all this fear, trembling, and horror the world called enjoyment life. But if I may ask a question, if you should ever want to fly away from all this overwhelmed life, where would you go? What would it take from you to fly away from all this suffering?

Proverbs 19:23 says, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied will not be visited by harm.”

The psalmist recognized that even if he flees away, he will still have his heartbroken. He said, “How far away I would flee! In the wilderness, I would remain” Psalm 55:7. But towards the end of that chapter 55 comes the answer: We must never run away anyhow, but to run to God and Cast our burden upon Him, He will sustain and give rest on every side.

Therefore, brethren, don’t run away, but run to God with all your trouble in mind and pray. He has given us the burden-bearer whose name is Jesus Christ. He is the one who gave us a new life so that we may live in peace with him even as we walk through the valley of the shadow death. This is the way of life, not only for those saved but also for those who have lost. God gives the true rest. Psalm 116:7 says, “Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”

Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for bearing my burden and giving me the rest I need.
2. Oh Lord, please help me to be strong and courageous in your word in Jesus’ name. Amen.
3. Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
