Act of Hearing and Doing!

“I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it.” Luke 6:47

The strength and rigidity of any tree depend on how rooted it is. Just as the rootedness of a tree is essential, likewise, every building’s foundation is essential. The most important structure of a building is its foundation, and this is why every builder should take priority in fixing an unshakable and robust foundation. As simple as it might look, a poor foundation can cause the downfall of a mighty building.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve placed on it, if the foundation is not strong enough, the entire structure will come down. However, Jesus’s teaching seems like a simple but vital principle from today’s text. Teaching the importance of obedience, and He likened everyone who hears and does what He says as someone who has a strong foundation. Now, it’s not about hearing alone. It’s about doing what He says.

Luke 6:47 says, “He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it because it was well-built.”

Christ’s word is the solid rock, and when we become the doer of the word, we become rooted, we gradually lay a strong foundation. And when life circumstances and eventualities arise, we shall not be moved. I don’t know what your pursuit and plans are in life if you do not build them on the word of God, all you gather is self-importance.

The word of God is not any form of earthly wisdom; it is God’s supernatural gift for us. We can’t be rooted in it and then have our life shattered. And all we need to do is to hear and do what the Word says; there is no other way of laying a solid foundation for our lives because all other grounds are mere sinking sand. 1 Corinthians 10:4 says, “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”

Prayer:
1. Lord, I receive the grace to act upon every word I hear henceforth.
2. Holy Spirit, make me a consistent doer of the father’s will in Jesus’ name.
