Devoid of Attachment!

Devoid of Attachment!

“When the young man heard this, he went away sad because he had great wealth.” Matthew 19:22

The Christian life comes with detachment from everything that magnifies earthly and temporary satisfaction as the priority. The attachment has always been a crude but sure way the devil has always employed in distracting God’s people from the goal.

The young man we are profiling today was one whose earthly possessions had taken so much space in his life that he didn’t think twice about the teachings of Jesus. Even though he had the conviction that there was something crucial he may not have done, he was still attached to worldly pleasures and material things. He was still attached to the idea that he could be happy without them. Is there anything your heart possessed but yet possessed you?

Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”

Love comes with sacrifice and a price. In the position of God, after loving us, He gave up His Son for our redemption, and we are free from every oppression. So if we truly say we love God, why are we detaching ourselves? While we ponder on this, anything or person that can take God’s place, that can make a mess of our salvation and can make us a laughingstock among the people who deserve a knock and a squashing from us, so we can see the one who has called us and given us His best and all.

There is a glory in detaching from the load and burden surrounding us. Just as Apostle Paul told Timothy (1st Tim. 6:17 – 19) to teach the people that nothing — including wealth and riches will last forever; as it is a tale of here today, gone tomorrow but the only thing you can count on that will never fade away is the word of God and His Spirit. Matthew 16:26 says, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”

Prayer:
1. Dear Father, I need your help to separate myself from every form of attachment determined to take your place in my life.
2. Psalm 16:10; Oh Lord, abandoned me not to the altar of this world of sin, but the altar of love in Jesus Christ.
