Do You Know His Worth!

“And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.” Zechariah 11:12

Throughout the history, Israel had been plagued with a worthless shepherd (See Ezekiel 34), these shepherds are a wolf in sheep’s clothing, yet the people satisfy them with all their possessions such as golds, silver, cloths, farm produce. Zechariah was the representative of the lord as a shepherd here. He asked for his wage for shepherding the flock, and all they could present him to was thirty pieces of silver.

When considering all that God had done throughout the history for the children of Israel, the miserly amount showed their value of shepherding them. Although God had been a good shepherd by sending his son to them and not only to them but also to you and me. Nevertheless, he was betrayed and rejected for the price of an injured slave (Exo 12:32).

The price was so low that it could not purchase a fertile land but a potters field. This same land was used as a cemetery for foreigners (Mathew 27:3,7). Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought the thirty pieces of silver again to the chief priests and elders, And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

The food for thought is what does Christ worth to you as a Christian, is he someone you can sacrifice your all for or someone you talk to only when you are out of options? Are you grateful for his birth, death, and resurrection, or you are ignorant of it? Remember, “Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24.

Father, give me the grace to meet up the standard of what you have sacrificed for me on the cross.
