Don’t Just Hear, Obey!
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your selves.” James 1:22
‘Hearing God’ is an act every believer should continuously experience, but it is more significant to act by what is being heard. It is effortless to pay attention and hear from God, but it is more difficult for an average believer to take expected actions towards God’s leading. A crucial corollary part of hearing God is a quick and total adherence to whatever God gives as an instruction.
It does look somehow, sometimes, because the things of the spirit are different to the belief system of this world. One of the proofs of a direct walk in the will of God is sacrifice and obedience to God’s voice. So, when certain things seem pleasing to the flesh, quickly give a check, it might be against the will of God.
It takes consistency in obedience for a human being to actively and snappily respond to God’s voice and His commands. Every of God’s word is meant to be practiced; we are not just to read and teach them. One of the reasons believers must obey God’s audible voice, and the written is because people are watching. It is not for their watching sake, but to be an example of a good Christian.
One of the best means of evangelism is through your lifestyle. Your life is meant to be teachable and preach-able, not just the words of your mouth. Your behavior and character should reflect the gospel message you want to spread. Jesus said, “everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to be submissive to you will, that I may obey your words perfectly.
2. Oh Lord, help me to be obedient in every way to fulfill your plan in Jesus’ name. Amen.
