Flee, Then Follow!
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22.
Flee, and then follow. This command calls for a deliberate choice. We are to flee youthful lusts like Joseph fled when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him (Gen. 39:7-19). “Flee” denotes a sense of urgency to run from that which is dangerous and destructive. Just as we flee physical danger to save our bodies from harm, so we are to flee spiritual danger to save our spirits from harm.
In the process, our choice often keeps others from harm. Joseph’s choice kept him from moral destruction, and later save nations. We cannot escape temptation if we don’t take action. There are some temptations out there you can fast and pray about, but the temptation of sexual immorality is too strong to resist. Therefore, you must flee. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Proverbs 6:5 says, “Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the Fowler.” You must have a strong desire to flee from lust before you can escape temptation and sin. You must have a strong will to live in Christ Jesus before you can escape temptation.
Physically and spiritually, sexual immorality is dangerous to your health. It is not only harmful to your body but also for your soul and mind. Therefore, “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. Sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18.
Prayer:
1. Oh! Lord, I thank you that I am alive and that my life is worthy of your love.
2. Give me the heart desire to flee away from sin in Jesus’ name.
3. Father, may Your Holy Spirit fill me with a sense of urgency to flee destructive and sinful lusts and to follow Your way of righteousness.
