Following the Master!
“Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.” John 13:36
One of the few biblical illustrations that opened the mind of many people who they are now with God is the sheep and shepherd relationship. This relationship is one that demonstrates the extent to which people should depend on God. This dependence begins with your obedience, God’s command, that will shape your hearing to understand God’s voice.
The bleating of sheep has a way it calls the Shepherd to its need, and likewise, the sheep must also understand the voice of the Shepherd. Jesus made us know that sheep know the voice of their Shepherd, and this helps to strengthen their relationship in which the sheep chooses who to follow in all circumstances. What about you? What kind of voice do you get familiar with, and how does it affect your life?
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Any voice that does not strengthen your relationship with God is worthless. It is only God’s voice that matters in all areas of life. Don’t take fake news and gossip as gospel news. Avoid the ravenous prophet that lies on the streets to spread the false vision to his followers.
“Thus, says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their minds, not from the mouth of the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:16
Therefore, be on guard whom you should follow and not seek out those who are trying to deceive you. The world has become so corrupt that we have lost our ability to discern the truth. That is why Jesus came as the truth, way, and life to lead us and strengthening our relationship with God. Remember, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
Prayer:
1. Lord, thank you for going before me every day. I align with what you have done for me and what you are bringing my way.
2. Oh, Lord! Help me to know more of you than I ever knew before.
3. Holy Spirit, help me to know the word of God and to know what it means to me.
