God’s Elect!
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Election in the biblical context is God’s divine choice for some people or nations as a whole. This idea found full expression in the life of the Israelites, and the bible affirmed them to be God’s chosen people. So, likewise, every true Christian is distinguished by God’s divine affection towards them. Therefore, an election is not by mistake; it is something that proceeds from exalted views of God as a result of a covenant or the acceptance of Christ as Lord and savior.
As the elect of God, this is a charge to keep you in check, lest you forgot who you are and the new life that has been given to you -the things that are lawful but not expedient to you. As Christian, we are purified, holy, and well-beloved by God himself, but putting on behavior marked by the fruit of the Spirit distinguishes us from the rest of the world.
Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.”
Brethren, since God chose you to be holy people whom he loves, the people he had made kings and priests after the order of Jesus. Your garment should be clothed with all these virtues listed in (Colossians 3:12-14) forbearing one another, forgiving one another, and putting on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. Ephesians 5:9 says, “for the fruit of light is found in all that is good, right, and true.”
We are the ones that will be called into eternal glory, and we must put on the nature of Christ with whom we will dwell when we get to heaven, which is the nature of loving God and our neighbors. Therefore, let us allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow in us as God’s elect so that we can live and prosper in this world and also enjoy heaven. Ephesians 1:4 says, “According as God hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”
