Growing in All Things in Christ! 2
“Dear brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. Regarding evil, be infants, but in your thinking, be mature.” 1 Corinthians 14:20
The scripture above is a description of God’s intentions toward our Christian life and growth. God wants us to grow. His goal is for us to mature and develop the characteristics of Christ. Sadly, we sometimes grow older but never grow up. A lot of Christians kept being spiritual infants because they didn’t intend to grow.
Our spiritual growth in Christ needs a voluntary commitment. We must desire growth, decide to grow, make an effort to grow and persist in growing. Every disciple begins with a decision. At the choosing of the disciples of Jesus Christ, when they received the call, they responded to Jesus’ invitation with a decision to follow Him. That’s all you need to get started. Decide to become a disciple.
The most viable tool used in shaping people’s lives is the commitment they choose to make. Our commitments can develop or destroy us, but either way, commitments define us. If you’re committed to a particular sport for some time, you will look like your desire increases within the time frame. We become whatever we are committed and willing to do. It’s not about what we want, but how much effort and dedication we put into it.
This commitment part of growth is the secret behind the diversity of growths we have in the body of Christ. While many people are afraid of committing to anything and drift through life, many others make half-hearted commitments to competing values that lead to frustration. Many others make a full commitment to worldly goals, such as becoming famous and wealthy and eventually end up being disappointed and bitter. Every choice has eternal consequences. Choose wisely, “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love.” Ephesians 3:17
Prayer:
1. Lord, give me the wisdom to make wise commitments in Jesus’ name.
2. Isaiah 54:15; I command every evil gathering against your stability and expansion in life to be scattered by fire and thunder in Jesus’ name.
