Moral Integrity!
“No one in my master’s house is more important than I am. The only thing he hasn’t given me is you, and that’s because you are his wife. I won’t sin against God by doing such a terrible thing as this.” Genesis 39:9
“Everybody does it.” “Who will ever know?” “It’s not a big deal”; these are excuses often given by those who justify doing what is morally wrong. We are surrounded by media displays of immorality that could lead us to believe immorality is not immoral. We are surrounded by people who think they have the right to do something if it is morally wrong or immoral.
Joseph seemed to have the perfect opportunity to enjoy a sexual liaison with Potiphar’s wife. Only he and she would ever know, right? What harm would it do? Joseph, a man of moral integrity, would not let himself be snared by sin’s web, even at the cost of disobeying his master’s wife, regardless of what the consequence might be. He would never allow himself to be caught in adultery, all because nobody was watching him.
Christians are called to be holy because God is holy. However, many Christians are tempted to justify their sin even when God says, “Don’t do it.” Human justification will deceive us into sinful actions. We must remember, however, that sin always has consequences. The consequences of this kind of behavior were so significant that nobody could stand for it when judgment came to pass.
We must always be on alert, for it is easy to be lured by sin’s deception. Deceptive kings govern this earth, and they have made sins look so sweet, attractive, and deceitful to men who live in it. Christians must understand who they are in Christ and close their eyes totally to sin or RUN away from it. We are to stand firm against sin even when no one is around or when everyone seems to be doing it.
Malachi 3:5 says, “Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.”
Prayer:
1. Father, may I be a model of integrity even when I believe no one is looking.
2. Psalm 124:7; You will escape every snare of the Fowler positioned against you and your glorious destiny by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
