Putting Away Lying!
“Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25
The first characteristic or the evidence of the new birth is putting away sins (lies, corrupt communication, deceiving others, unnecessary anger, and resentment, etc. Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, these little sins that you overlook should not be found in you because you have been crucified with Christ.
Of course, there is no life without a past, either good or bad. That is why apostle Paul reminded us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, saying, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” In other words, the old has gone out of sight, but in our newness, we cannot continue in sin because we have been born into the family of God.
1 John 5:18 says, “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.”
Sin shields us from God’s love. It creates a barrier between God and us. David understands the power of sin; that’s why he said, If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me, but if you keep yourself away from sins, you will always enjoy his presence (psalm 66:18). ‘Do not do it is an antidote to not knowing.’
Any sin commit knowingly or unknowingly gives place to the devil to penetrate one’s life. Allowing the devil to crawl in gives him the authority to control your mind, which leads to confusion, bitterness, and oppression. However, if you keep yourself away from sins, you will always enjoy God’s presence, and you will never fall into a ditch, nor will you mourn because you are always covered under His shadow. Jesus said, in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
