Resist the Devil!
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
A Christian is like a soldier, or rather a soldier that is on the war front fighting against enemies to secure the treasures of a territory. Any loose or slackness on the part of the soldier can cost the soldier and the people many things. As a people, we are admonished in the scripture above to do two things: Submit to God and Resist the devil.
How do you resist the devil? First, accept the salvation of God. You won’t be able to say no to the devil if you have not said yes to Christ. Without Christ, you’re defenseless against the devil. And you know, once you become a believer, Satan cannot force you to do anything; he can only suggest to you what you should do. However, as soon as you accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He becomes your advocate and protector.
The second way to resist the devil having submitted to God is to use the word of God as your weapon. This was the secret of Jesus’ victory over the devil when he tempted Him (Jesus) in the wilderness. Jesus resisted every temptation with scriptures and not mere words. Satan does not fear your salvation; he does not fear your service in the church; he does not fear your title, but he fears the Word of God.
Read the scriptures and understand them for daily victory. There’s power in God’s Word. Eat the scriptures daily. It will help you stay on track. Keep reading and learn more about how to live a godly life in Christ. The strategy seems simple yet so powerful that it requires your attention and daily devotion in the word of God. This is how we resist the devil. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
Prayer:
1. Heavenly Father, help me to read your word daily from now in Jesus’ name.
2. Exodus 15:6 – “Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right-hand LORD shattered the enemy.” Oh Lord, shatter every enemy of progress in my …… (fill in the gap).
