Starve Your Distractions, Feed Your Focus.
“So I replied by sending this message to them: “I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?” Nehemiah 6:3.
Distraction is a tool in the hand of destiny wasters, so be warned! Have you ever been engaged in a project or task where someone tried to distract you or draw you away from completing the job? That can be extremely aggravating—especially when you are trying to focus.
In the Old Testament, we find the record of Nehemiah and the other Jewish exiles engaged in the critical task of rebuilding the city walls of Jerusalem that had been destroyed. However, their enemies were not pleased with the city being rebuilt, so they tried to draw Nehemiah away from the task by inviting him to leave his work and meet with them. He realized that the invitation was a trick to pull him away from work and also to harm him.
Nehemiah said, “Four times, they sent me the same message, and each time I gave the same reply.” In other words, He starves his distractions, Feeds his Focus. What about you? Are you feeding your attention to the most important things? Or to the least essential things? I encourage you today; do not allow your mind to become a wanderer. Instead, build up your confidence like Nehemiah. He follows God’s plan to rebuild the city; therefore, he refused to be deceived by his enemies. He kept doing the work that God had called him to do.
Nehemiah set the example for us as we take care of daily responsibility and God’s work. We should ignore the distractions and deceptions that can draw us off the course. We also need to keep our eyes on God and faithfully continue His work. The world has been fashioned in a way to get people distracted and make them lose focus on God. Do not believe in everything the world offered you because some can be a weapon of distraction.
Proverbs 14:15 says, “A fool will believe anything; wise people watch their step.”
And until we understand this and guide our hearth diligently against the deceptions of the world, we might easily be deceived even when it looks profitable. God is always ready to lead us through; we only need to be deliberate about our focus. Hold on to Jesus, and “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Prayer:
1. Lord, I thank you for love and mercy. I pray that you will forgive me if I sin against thee, and grant me peace
2. Father, help me to keep my thoughts focused on You and Your plans for my life.
3. I pray that you will give me the strength to overcome every spirit of distraction I may encounter. In Jesus’ name. Amen
