The Genuine Sacrifice! 2
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.
The value we placed on love in this generation has depreciated. Nature can testify that love in the atmosphere is not as strong as it once was. We are now living in a world where people value money and power above love. Many people have become obsessed with their self-worth that they don’t even care about others’ feelings. I am sure you have heard this phrase before: ‘What’s love got to do with the money?’
It is true! Love does not mean money or possessions, but rather the ability to Listen, Observe, Value, and Embrace each other in all aspects of life. I was praying for a young lady in her hospital bed who had been struggling with kidney and heart failure for years. After the prayer, she told me about her parent status, how wealthy they were, and the less time they spent together. She said, ‘ I know they spoiled me with money, but their love for me was not genuine, and I couldn’t help but feel that they robbed me of my destiny.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not to love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy; it does not boast; it is not proud. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking; it is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always Trusts, always Hopes, always Perseveres.”
They did not take time to listen to me, nor cared to observe what I do with the money they gave me (she continued). I thought money was everything they could ever give to make a difference in my life, but instead, I become nothing more than a pawn in their game. I take many anxiety medications that lead me down a path of drug addiction. I am addicted to drugs and alcohol, so when it comes to my health, I have no choice but to go through this process of dialysis to get rid of all the pain.”
Brethren, Jesus has all the resources of the world; he is all-powerful and omnipotent. He can command the whole universe to do what he wants without visiting the earth. But yet, He came because of unconditional love for you. He came from heaven to earth to Listen, Observe, Value, Embrace, and Saves us from all our sins. He showed us the way out of the darkness and gave us the grace to walk in the presence of a heavenly father. He gave us a new life with him; what a genuine sacrifice. Romans 12:9 says, “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.”
