The Heart of Giving.

“The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45

The heart is the center of all life. It’s where everything happens for a reason, and every action you take is an act of love. Out of the abundant heart, your mouth speaks; out of the heart, you raise important feelings and thoughts. The heart is also a vessel for love and care. It’s where we can express our true selves. If we’re going to be a generous giver, it starts with your heart. The heart is the major organ of the circulatory system. The heart pumps oxygen throughout the body. The heart must give to function, or else it will become a heart failure. When you give to others, they are receiving the same kind of love that you receive from God. You give to them because you have been given a gift from God.

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts.” We start nurturing life from the heart, just like we nurture the seed from the soil. Every form of seed, which doesn’t get into the ground or get covered with a little of the earth, never brings forth fruit. This is the same with your giving heart; whenever it doesn’t come from the heart, it cannot bring forth the expected harvest. This might come as a shock to you, but it is the truth about the process of planting and harvesting in life. In Luke 21:1-4, Jesus tells a story of a poor widow’s offering, how she gave the best from her heart to God. How does it come from her heart? Because she has consciously cultivated the heart of giving. You cannot indeed be a giver unless you develop the habit. Before God could manifest His son as one that He had given, He had shown the men of old that there is nothing He cannot give for the sake of His own. This was another exciting lesson we can learn from the father of Faith, Abraham, who took his only son, his son whom he loved at the request of God to be offered as a sacrifice for God.

At every moment in the scriptures, God demonstrated the heart of giving is more important than the gifts brought to the altar itself. Your heart of giving validates the offering you have brought, and that heart is also the value system with which the Lord sees the offering that a man has brought. This kingdom runs on a value system, and that’s one of the reasons God manifested Himself as the highest level of offering a man can give to his friend by giving Himself to us, for our falling and failures. There was a heart in the offering, and that’s a key to estimating what our reward can be. David spoke on this wise as well (2Samuel 24:24). Whatsoever a man takes from his treasures, he is taking it from his heart. Whatever is dear to the heart of a man holds the man and has weight both physically and spiritually. Let the giving be of the heart.

Prayer:

1. I give you thanks to your name, Lord Jesus; and to my father in heaven who gave me life through his son.
2. Lord, as from today, my giving is intentional and from my heart. No more compulsive giving, I give freely for your will and purposes on the earth.
3. I pray for you today that God will give you all the things you need to give back to benefit the world around you in Jesus name. Amen.
