Give us today our daily bread. Matthew 6:11
There was a 17-year-old girl who had a 14-day bike ride through Germany with her friend. After 1,850 kilometers they stayed for the last time in Darmstadt to rest. While on their way back to Kassel, their money was used up. They only had half a loaf of bread and jam on the last day. At 10 o’clock they took a break and shared the last piece of bread. One hundred forty kilometers were still in front of them. They decided to drive through to the finish. In the last two hours of their journey, they “saw” a freshly baked, the shiny bread crust. So one of them said this is our daily bread. This bread idea gave them the strength to hold out.
The humble prayer to our Heavenly Father, with faith in Jesus Christ, is enough to see us through daily activities. When Jesus said, “give us this day our daily bread,” He was actually asking our Heavenly Father for food, a happy heart, health, income, friends and warm clothes that are necessary to hold on to another day. According to a well-known anecdote, one of the French queens (probably Maria Theresa of Spain, Louis XIV’s first wife) commented on a report on the starving peasants: “If they have no bread, they should eat cake.” Every day, people did not understand that the peasants had no food at all when they were with bread.
Keep your dream alive with humble prayer. No matter what has happened to you in the past or what is going on in your life right now, God listens to humble prayer. Iyanla Vanzant expanded the concept even more and emphasized that “In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was ‘Help me.’ Sometimes a prayer was ‘Thank you.’ What I’ve discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help, is just a prayer away.”
The clothing, housing, protection from bad weather, peace in the country, and a good government; all this he included in the request for the daily bread because it is necessary for life. And it depends on the care of a merciful God to whom we pray in the Lord’s Prayer. Proverbs 30:8 says, “Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread that is my portion.”
Prayer:
1. Thank God for daily provision and preservation now in Jesus name.
2. Sam 8: 6 says: “And the LORD preserved David whither soever he went.” Lord, preserve my family and me wherever we go and whatever we do today in Jesus name.
3. I declare now that Poverty is not my portion in Jesus name. I am UNREACHABLE AND UNTOUCHABLE by poverty in Jesus name.
