The Posture of Your Heart!
Beloved of God, before we dive into the content of today’s message, I want you to ponder on these questions below: Does God answer prayers due to one’s will or heart desire? If someone is rebellious, will God answer him or her according to his/her rebellious heart? Is your Answer Yes or No? Hold on to your Answer for a moment.
Let us see the story of Balak and Balaam, where Balak was the king of Moab who summoned Balaam to curse the children of Israel (Numbers Chp 22-23). Balaam was a kind of diviner or sorcerer in the Old Testament who was hired by Balak curse the children of the Israelites. Balaam having heard from God initially not to accept the offer of Balak, but in his heart, he was not happy with it, he was enticed with the rewards and benefits that await him.
Although he already made up his mind to reject the offer out of a perverse heart. God is a sovereign God, who will never force anyone to do his will, allowed him to go. If not for Balaam’s donkey, the angel of death would have struck him to death. We can find similar cases in the bible where God answers prayers according to Idol in one’s heart, (2 Kings 18:6-22 Micaiah and the false prophets), (Mathew 19:7-8 Jesus settling a divorce case).
There are some things we request from God, that is not right, or it is not yet the appointed time to receive it. Friends, it is better to be patient with God than impatient with our heart desire. Because forcing your heart desires over God’s Will, can lead someone astray. 1 John 5:14 says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
Prayers
1. Father in heaven, if there is any way I have come to you with an idol in my heart, forgive me, and let your will be done in Jesus’ name. Amen
2. Father, thank you because I know that even when you did not answer my prayers. It is a sign of your love for me!
