Warfare, Not a Fanfare!
“This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare.” 1 Timothy 1:18
You can begin to wonder why is it warfare, not a fanfare, and what is that thing that requires warfare? Sure, I will let you know, but a brief introduction is needed. According to Webster dictionary, warfare is an activity that is done as part of a struggle between different entities, while fanfare is a lot of talk or activity showing that people are excited about something.
Back to the critical text, Paul is giving Timothy a charge here that a good prophecy has gone out before concerning you to be a great apostle and father in the faith to many. However, for these prophecies to come to pass, you must fight the good fight by holding faith and a good conscience. (Emphasis added). In other words, Paul is saying that don’t joke around with promises of God in your life. Don’t let yourself get caught up in the drama of it all.
I laugh at Christians who receive revelation or prophecy from God either through his prophets or through a clear vision, only for them to start rejoicing. I am telling you today that it is not the next thing to do. Of course, if God promised, it will surely come to pass, but you have some responsibility and obligation on earth as well so that the will of God will come to pass.
Beloved, the vision is revealed to you so that you can prepare for it (warfare) and not for you to fold your arms (fanfare). May the faithful God be with you and me forever and ever in Jesus’ name. Amen. Remember what 2Corinthians 10:4 says that “The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for the good fight of faith you fought for us.
2. Pray as leads by the Holy Spirit.
