In Genesis 16:13, after Hagar encounters God’s presence and receives direction from an angel to return to Abram and Sarai, Hagar refers to the Lord as “El Roi,” signifying “You are the God who sees me.” Through this experience, she realizes that God is aware of her suffering and looks after her.
