“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12
Have you ever felt like your ego was drowning out the whispers of your true self? Carrying the Spirit of Humility is essential in our daily interactions and spiritual growth. Humility does not imply weakness or low self-esteem; rather, it acknowledges our limitations and fosters a genuine appreciation for others. As C.S. Lewis once remarked, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.” When we embody humility, we create space for love, empathy, and authentic connections with those around us.
I remember a time when success came knocking at my door—a promotion, accolades, and admiration. Yet amidst all the applause, I felt increasingly disconnected from who I truly was. The louder my achievements grew, the softer my sense of humility became. One day, as I gazed in the mirror, I saw a stranger staring back—someone wrapped up in pride rather than purpose. That’s when it hit me: to carry the spirit of humility is not downplay success but embrace authenticity through simplicity and gratitude.
1 Peter 5:5 says, “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
I began this journey by practicing mindful moments—finding beauty in small acts like listening with intention and acknowledging others’ contributions. As these practices rooted deeper within me, something miraculous happened; clarity emerged beyond superficial accolades, leading to richer connections with God, myself, and those around me.
A powerful biblical example of humility can be found in the life of Jesus Christ in John 13:1-17. Although He was divine, yet humble. Through this act, He taught the importance of serving others rather than seeking status or recognition. Remember, by embracing a humble spirit and fostering a servant’s heart, we align ourselves with God’s will and create an environment where everyone can flourish. Matthew 5:5 says, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Amen.
Prayer for the Day
Lord, help me not to focus on what I cannot do but rather to embrace the gifts you have bestowed upon me. Teach me to cultivate the talents so that they bear fruit for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
