Celebrating Life’s Blessings with Gratitude! Part Two
“Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” 2 Corinthians 3:5
We all have something to be thankful for, whether the people we hold dear or the little things in life. Celebrating God’s daily blessings helps keep us grounded and reminds us of how much we have been given. A deeper look at expressing thankfulness can help open our eyes to the true breadth of what we can be grateful for in our lives. We use today’s Bible verse because it emphasizes the importance of recognizing that our sufficient is from God; no matter what gifts or abilities we possess, they ultimately come from God and should be appreciated with humility.
I remember a story after 1588 when England claimed victory, and speaker Crooke was presented to Queen Elizabeth in the House of Lords on the occasion of his election. He said England had been defended against the Spaniards and their Armada by Her Majesty’s mighty arm. He tried to refer to the Queen as a great warrior who saved and gave them victory. However, the Queen interrupted him and, from her throne, said: “No, but by the mighty hand of God, Mr. Speaker.” It can only take humble people to understand God’s mighty hand in whatever they have achieved.
Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.”
Brethren, do you recognize the hand of God in your life from January to this moment, or did you sit back and think, like Mr. Crooke, that you were lucky? I am sure that if we could all be humble to acknowledge God, He will do more for us. While it may seem difficult to focus on His plans for our lives, we must take a step back and appreciate the beauty in humility. We must understand that when we humble ourselves before Him, God can use us to do greater things than we can imagine. So, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”(Psalm 136:1)
Acknowledge the Lord with gratitude, and let Him be exalted above your desires. Celebrate the blessings God has bestowed upon you and express gratitude for them. Every day brings new opportunities to recognize and appreciate these blessings-to experience joy in knowing that we have been loved and favored by an all-powerful God. Taking moments throughout our day to pause and give thanks will help foster a spirit of contentment and humility, reminding us that it is only through God’s grace that anything good comes about in our lives. Psalm 50:23 says, “But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”
Prayer of the Day:
1. Magnify and exalt the LORD for His name
2. Thank Him for blessing another day, another month, and another moment for the opportunity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
