Climbing Higher!

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.” Philippians 3:12

Have you ever watched a hiker climbing a steep ridge, their eyes set on the summit? It’s a beautiful metaphor for our spiritual journey. Just as that hiker ascends to gain a broader perspective of the landscape, we too are called to climb higher in our spiritual disciplines. As the Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 3:12, “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Let this remind us that our journey is not about reaching a destination but about the joy of the ascent.

In Isaiah 40:31, we read, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.” Isn’t it amazing how spiritual disciplines can stretch us, renewing our strength without straining us? These practices include prayer, meditation, and scripture reading — they are like the training that prepares the hiker for the climb. They elevate our spirit, allowing us to soar higher above life’s distractions.

2 Peter 1:5-7 says, “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”

D.L. Moody once said,  “Higher ground is holier ground.” Just as the climber seeks the breathtaking vistas from the mountaintop, we are invited to seek intimacy with God in deeper ways. In 2 Peter 1:5-8, we are urged to add to our faith virtues like knowledge and self-control. Each step we take in spiritual practice reveals more of God’s glory, enriching our lives in wonderful ways. As we aim for the heights, let us anchor our hearts in the promise of elevation that changes our perspective. May our efforts in spiritual disciplines lead us closer to God, filling us with His joy.

Moses’ journey up Mount Sinai beautifully illustrates this truth. He spent forty days in prayer and connection with God, emerging with profound wisdom and guidance for his people. It reminds us that when we commit to climbing higher in our faith, we encounter God in ways that transform us. Our time in prayer and reflection equips us to encourage others and share the fruits of our spiritual ascent.  Amen. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Amen.

Prayer for the Day!

Heavenly Father, guide us as we seek to climb higher in our spiritual journey. Strengthen us with Your grace and fill our hearts with the wisdom that comes from above. Help us to press on in our disciplines, embracing the richness of our relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
