Count your blessings, and See!

Welcome to today’s daily devotion of Thanksgiving. We are thankful for the blessings of our family, friends, and fellow believers especially you. We are grateful for the blessings of our heavenly father. Our hearts are filled with the abundant life of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are thankful for the daily inspiration and encouragement that comes from the holy spirit.

Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

When we are grateful for the gift of life, then everything else is a blessing. It is not just about the things we have received or not receive but also how much we can count our blessing and see God’s glory in the midst of it all. Romans 8:28 says, “we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Johnson Oatman, Jr., son of Johnson and Rachel Ann Oatman, was born near Medford, N. J., April 21, 1856. He wrote a song 1897 called ‘Count Your Blessings’ and the song became one of the most popular songs ever written. Part of the song says the following:

“When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.”

“Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done…

My brother and sister, what are you counting? What are you grateful for? How many blessings can you count to this day that you able to make it alive in Christ? Count your blessings in Christ as what is true, what is honorable, what is just, what is pure, what is lovely, what is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things as a blessing. “For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.” Romans 14:18.
