“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
In the journey of leadership, courage is the compass that guides us through uncertain waters. As Ambrose Redmoon wisely stated, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” This quote serves as a powerful reminder that while fear may be present, our commitment to our mission and those we lead must always take precedence.
Reflect on Joshua 1:9, which commands us to “Be strong and courageous.” This verse is not just a call to action; it’s a promise that God goes with us wherever we lead. There have been moments in my own leadership where courage was essential — times when I had to stand firm in my convictions, even when faced with opposition or uncertainty. In those moments, I learned that true leadership often requires us to embrace vulnerability and act despite our fears.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Consider the story of David confronting Goliath. He stood alone against a giant, fueled by faith and the belief that God was on his side. David didn’t let fear dictate his actions; instead, he focused on the victory that awaited him. Similarly, we are called to confront our giants — be it difficult conversations, tough decisions, or leading through adversity — with unwavering faith and resolve.
Remember, “Bravery in leadership means speaking the truth, even if your voice shakes and the room falls silent.” This resonates deeply as we navigate challenges. The truth we speak can inspire and uplift others, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles. We can draw strength from Proverbs 28:1, which says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Let this be our anthem as we lead with integrity and courage. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Prayer for the Day!
Heavenly Father, grant us the courage to lead boldly and authentically. Help us to remember that our strength comes from You. May we face our fears with faith and inspire those around us to do the same. Empower us to speak truth and act justly, trusting in Your guidance every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Remember, dear leaders, you are never alone on this journey; your courage will light the way for others.
