Don’t Let Your Mind Wander – Stay Focused!
“Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, why do you entertain evil thoughts in your heart?” Matthew.9:4
A mind at peace with God, unpolluted by negativity, is stronger than any charm or incantation. In our scriptural verse for today, Jesus seemed surprised to see the people harboring and entertaining evil thoughts in their hearts. He marveled at what the people permitted as guests into their hearts. Jesus, on seeing this asked why they chose to, as though demanding an explanation from them. Why allow bitterness and hatred to creep into your heart where the issues of life spring?
Your heart is the center of your life. When you guard your heart, you guard the course of your life. Solomon said in Proverbs 4:23, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” In other words, above everything else, guard your heart because it determines the course of your life. If you let your mind wander, you will not be focused on what you are doing. This can lead to mistakes and poor decisions.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what the will of God is, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
It is whatever you allow entering into your heart that enters. And if you do not check it, it could grow beyond your imagination and lead to something unpleasing for you. Remember, Cain only entertained envy in his heart against his brother, and gradually, it grew into hatred. Until it eventually turned out that he killed his brother, and this made him a vagabond for the rest of his life. He would not even listen to the voice of God, who came to warn him against it.
Are any immoral thoughts that do not come from God growing in your heart? How many of them have you entertained by giving attention to it? It can kick you out of God if you don’t aggressively deal with it. Cry to God about them to uproot whatsoever He has not planted in your heart. Cry as David cried, and you will see God coming to your aid. Psalm 139:23-24 says, “search me oh lord and see if there is any evil way in me, and lead me the way everlasting.”
Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for all the blessings you have given me.
2. Oh! Lord, guard my heart and uproot every evil thought I may think of in Jesus’ name.
3. You are my shield, oh Lord, against all enemies of my soul in Jesus’ name. Amen.
