“I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry.” Psalm 40:1
One way to nurture patience and find encouragement in the midst of waiting is to draw strength from the testimonies of those who have gone before us. Throughout history, countless believers have experienced seasons of waiting, and their stories offer inspiration and reassurance.
Consider the story of David, a shepherd boy anointed as the future king of Israel. After receiving the promise, David had to wait years before seeing it come to fruition. He faced trials and hardships, even being pursued by King Saul, who sought to take his life. Despite the difficulties, David remained steadfast in trusting God’s timing. He wrote in Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalm 37:34 says, “Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will raise you up to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.”
Similarly, the apostle Paul experienced his own season of waiting. He endured imprisonment, persecution, and numerous trials as he proclaimed the Gospel. Yet, Paul found joy and purpose even amidst his suffering because he understood that his waiting was not in vain. In his letter to the Philippians, he wrote, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Philippians 1:6).
In these stories and many others, we see a common thread: the faithfulness of God in fulfilling His promises. The waiting seasons of life are not meant to discourage us but to strengthen our faith and deepen our relationship with Him. They are an invitation to trust in His sovereignty and to find contentment in His presence. Amen. Psalm 130:5 says, “I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait, and in His word I put my hope.” Amen.
