Expecting God!

Expecting God!

“You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.” Psalm 40:5

When we come to expect things of God, we often want Him to meet those expectations. We think that if we are good and do everything right, God should bless us with what we desire. However, what if God wants to go far beyond what we expect? What if He wants to do something greater in our lives than anything we could have imagined? Job 5:9 says, “the One who does great and unsearchable things, wonders without number.”

Think about Jesus: In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed to God, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (Luke 22:42). This prayer reveals Jesus’ great expectation of what was to come. He knew that he had to go through with the crucifixion and death on the cross, but he wanted his Father’s will to be done, not his own.

Isaiah 55:8 says, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”

Even though Jesus knew what was going to happen, he still went through with it all because it was the Father’s will. And because God is so much more than we can imagine, He did something incredible through Jesus and showed us that love is stronger than hate, forgiveness is greater than revenge, and death is not the end of the story. He showed us that even when we don’t understand what is happening in our lives, we can trust that God is always working for our good.

So if you are waiting for God to meet your expectations, be open to the idea that He may want to go far beyond what you expect. And be willing to let go of your expectations and wait for God to exceed them. Despite the challenging nature of Jesus’ instructions in the passage, the expectations he sets for us are ultimately hopeful. We can expect that we will be abundantly blessed when we follow Jesus’ lead and earnestly seek God’s will. We can also expect God to work in and through us to accomplish great things for his kingdom, even when our faith is small. Psalm 25:10 says, “All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.”

Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for the love you pour from your heart into my life. I am thankful for the blessings you have given me, and I thank you for the blessings that I have received.
2. Lord, I pray that you grant me the strength to walk with you because I am patiently waiting for you.
3. Oh Lord, help me trust in you, and allow your will to be done in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
