Extra Oil! 3

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.” Ecclesiastes 9:10

To enjoy every moment of life without regret for what you have done and how much you have gained or lost, you must continue to do what is right when you have the opportunity to do so. Opportunity can only be caught by the net of preparation of the heart and mind. The more we prepare ourselves for the future, the better our chances of success will be.

King Solomon explained what he saw under the sun in Ecclesiastes 9, that “The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. Bu time and chance happen to them all.” In other words, the world is full of opportunities. It’s just that we need to take advantage when they present themselves.

1 Samuel 17:50 says, “So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him, but there was no sword in the hand of David.”

David didn’t have any weapons at his disposal when he defeated Goliath. But he grabbed the opportunity and seized it with his sling at the right time. He took advantage of every opportunity to attack and kill the Philistines when nobody had been able to do so. He used all the resources he knew how to use to his advantage and approached the battle with diligence. That part in David’s life is what I called extra oil at work.

Brethren, is there any opportunity that you can take advantage of? I encourage you to prepare for it now because tomorrow may be too late to make a difference. Don’t wait until tomorrow to start preparing for your next step. “The five foolish virgins waited for the last minute to think about their next move to get extra oil (preparation and plan) in hand, but unfortunately, the last-minute minimized their breakthrough. I pray that will not be your portion in Jesus’ name. Amen. Matthew 13:43 says, “the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

1. Oh Lord, give me the heart that prepares me for your kingdom of heaven.
2. 3 John 1:2; “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”
