Extra Oil! 5
“But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.” Matthew 25:5
Faith is our belief or trust in something. According to Hebrews 11:1, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.” The virgins from the scriptural text could represent those in the Kingdom or the church of God. But some believers lack the full picture of what it means to have faith. It’s a matter of faith that we can see the signs and wonders of God.
Many times, the bridegroom stays late before he shows up for the celebration. However, it does not matter how the bridegroom and his company stay late; the bride must remain faithful and stay awake with their lamps burning. If the virgins went to sleep or probably didn’t have sufficient oil in their lamps to keep them burning, or maybe they had gone for some reason when the bridegroom came, they will be exempted from the festivities, which would bring embarrassment to them.
Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
The second coming of Christ was depicted with the bridegroom’s arrival while the “lamps” stand for the faith of Christians. The extra oil also symbolizes good works that accompany our faith. When things get tougher and you think that God does not answer prayers anymore, you have to hold on to your faith in God through prayers and supplication. Lamentations 3:25 says, “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.”
When you are faced with difficult situations, what will be your reaction? When it seems like all is lost, and things turn gloomy. It would help if you exercised your faith without wavering. Keep your lamp burning still and furnish it with every good work. It is through faith and work that the light of life shines brightly in the Holy Ghost. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Prayers;
1. Oh Lord, thank you so much for this wonderful gift of life. I am so grateful for everything.
2. Lord Jesus, you have given me the authority to exercise my faith; as a result of this, stand firm on this authority in Jesus’ name
