FLEE, THEN, FOLLOW!3
“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.” 1 Corinthians 14:1
What you FOLLOW will determine your life. The old saying goes, “Show me who your friend is, and I’ll tell you who you are?” It means who you FOLLOW determine YOU and whom you become. And to become like Christ, we must follow him. He is the only reliable friend who can guide us through all the storms that life throws at us.
Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” And his name is Jesus.
We became a changed person; immediately, we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. Our attitude, communication, and the way we relate to things around us will change. We are not of the world anymore, and we become spiritually active in our dealings. In our contemporary society, following one’s lustful preferences is encouraged and even applauded. We celebrate the world more than the word.
We should FLEE, THEN, FOLLOW. If we are to run away from the appearance of all evil such as lust, greediness, envy, unforgiveness, and so on, then where should we go? The challenge to flee implies that you should head somewhere else. Paul’s words to young Timothy invoke us to “follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace.” This should be the norm for the Christian whose heart has been purified by calling on the Lord. And above all, FOLLOW JESUS.
“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.” 1 Timothy 6:11.
Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for your guidance in this season of my life.
2. I pray that you continue to be faithful in your word and keep me going through the trials of life in Jesus’ name.
3. Father, may Your Holy Spirit fill me with a sense of urgency to flee destructive and sinful lusts and to follow Your way of righteousness.
