Focus on Your Goals!
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Paul advising the Philippians to be focused on the prize is a way of telling them he has been there, and the advice worked for him too. Focus means centering or concentrating one’s energy or attention on a particular thing. This definition shows that focus requires energy and power, but one can also get energy and motivation from focusing on the right thing.
Every human being has the potentials and gifts that have been placed in them. But how can the gifts and potentials come alive? Getting the right information! Yes, getting the right information and apply that knowledge to your life will help you achieve success.
James 1:22-23 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.”
There is a popular saying that “knowledge is power,” but that is not entirely true. The only applied applicable knowledge is power. If your knowledge is not relevant to what you need it for, it is still good information but useless for you. If you have information, and you do not apply it to what is required, then there is no point having it in the first place.
Information sharpens our mind, understanding clarifies our path, but the application of knowledge is more important. Therefore, the more we know about something, the more we can use it to make better decisions. This applies to everything, even including yourself. Proverbs 1:5 says, “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.”
1. Dear God, increase my capacity to learn and get wisdom.
2. John 8:32; Oh Lord, help me to know the truth that will set me free from life’s hindrances in Jesus’ name. Amen.
