“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:3
Picture walking into a bright studio, the scent of fresh paint in the air, and an untouched wall stretching wide before you. Your brush hovers, loaded with color—everything is possible in this moment. That is the scene God sets for you each new morning. As Genesis 1:3 records, “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” His very first word in history was His first stroke on creation’s canvas, turning emptiness into wonder. Today, He stands beside your blank wall, inviting you to join Him in the artistry of a renewed life.
Imagine the first dawn: darkness fades, light floods in, and shapes take form. In the same way a sunrise reveals the world it touches, God’s voice uncovers fresh purpose in you. The unknown author reminds us, “Sunrise is God’s canvas reset.” When you open your curtains—literally or figuratively—you echo that first dawn, letting divine light reveal new perspectives. A practical way to live this out is to open a journal right after waking, list three things you see differently in the morning’s glow, and thank God for each.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
So, “When Christ steps into your life, yesterday loses its grip and tomorrow starts to breathe.” Think of repainting a room: once the new color goes up, you no longer notice what was on the wall. Likewise, God’s grace doesn’t merely cover yesterday—it introduces an entirely new shade of life. Try rearranging one corner of your living space today—add a small plant, swap a photo frame, or set out a bright mug—to serve as a visual cue that you, too, are no longer the same.
Remember, “The past is a closed book; stop rereading the same page. Turn to the chapter where your future is waiting to be written.” T. Keller captures this with the phrase, “God loves new beginnings.” Take a quiet moment, breathe deeply, and release yesterday’s memories into God’s hands. Then ask, “Lord, what color are we adding now?” Maybe it’s the pastel of patience with a child, the bold red of generosity toward a neighbor, or the soothing blue of rest in your schedule. Your day becomes a living mural, one intentional brushstroke at a time. Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
Prayer for the Day!
Creator of Light, thank You for standing with me before today’s blank wall. I hand You every canvas from yesterday and eagerly watch as You choose the first color of grace for this new day. Brighten my thoughts, guide my words, and shape my actions so that my life displays Your artistry. May each stroke I add reflect Your beauty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
