A Good Heart is Key to Productivity
“And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.” Luke 8:15
A healthy heart is a key to a healthy life, so a Good Heart is Key to Productivity. We must all work to keep our hearts pure and free from the distractions of this world so that we can be open to God’s will and become the change we want to see in the world. If our heart is tainted with selfishness, greed, or hatred, then we will not be able to understand or accept the truth. We must also be humble enough to admit that we don’t know everything and need God’s help to find the truth. Only then can we receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Bible is clear that we should guard our hearts because they determine the course of our lives. In Matthew 13:1-23, Jesus tells a story about a farmer who sowed his seed in different ways. Some seeds fell on rocky ground where they couldn’t take root. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked out the plant. But some seed fell on good soil, producing a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted.
Matthew 12:35 says, “The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.”
Jesus says that this story is about how people hear God’s message. Those who hear and understand it immediately are like the seed that falls on good soil. They produce a crop that is a hundred times as much as had been planted. But the ones who hear but don’t understand are like those whose seed falls on rocky ground or among thorns. In other words, certain qualifications are needed to receive God’s truth for empowerment. One of those qualifications is that the heart must be honest and good, unpolluted by negativity.
The truth will not be received correctly if the heart is not pure. This is because our perspective is skewed by sinfulness, and we cannot see things objectively. But we can only understand and act on the truth faithfully if our hearts are clean. Remember, the heart is where the seeds of change must take root. It is a place of growth and transformation. According to Jesus, it is the soil in which these seeds of greatness grow and flourish. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
