“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14
As human beings, we are often conditioned to measure our worth in terms of how much money we make or how successful we are in our careers. But the truth is that our worth cannot be defined by what we can do for a living or how much money we have in the bank. We all possess unique individual talents that cannot be priced, and these gifts within us make up our true worth. In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus reminds us that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God’s knowledge and care.
If God cares about each sparrow, which has little monetary value, then surely, He cares about each one of us infinitely more. Our worth is not determined by what we can offer others financially or materially but rather by who we are as unique individuals with diverse talents and abilities. The currency of kindness, for example, is priceless beyond measure. When we extend a helping hand to others and show genuine care and concern for their well-being, we tap into a power that cannot be quantified by any dollar amount.
1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.”
Another currency that holds immense value is love – the love we receive from others and give back in return. Love makes life meaningful and fulfilling (1 Corinthians 13). It connects us on a deeper level and helps us navigate even the toughest challenges with grace and resilience. And while money can certainly facilitate certain aspects of our lives, it can never replace love’s profound impact on our hearts and souls. That’s why today’s verse from Psalm 139:14 reminds us of our incredible worth and value as individuals.
Remember, our Creator created us with purpose, intentionality, and love. Our worth cannot be bought or sold because it is inherent in who we are. So, don’t get caught up in society’s standards of success and achievement. Don’t measure your worth based on external factors such as wealth, status, or appearance because these things do not define us nor determine our true value. Our worth lies within ourselves –the unique combination of talents, passions, experiences, and relationships that make us who we are. Amen. Luke 12:7 says, “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Amen.
Prayer:
1. Oh Lord, thank you for this wonderful life opportunity that we are fortunate to have in Christ Jesus. I am so grateful.
2. Holy Spirit, help me recognize and embrace my inherent worth and change how I see myself and others by changing my perspective on what it means to be worthy in Jesus’ name. Amen.
