How Obedience Leads to Blessings!
“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” Isaiah 1:19
Your blessings depend on your obedience, just as the amount of water you get from a faucet depends on how much you turn the knob. Likewise, you can think of blessings as rewards God gives us for our obedience. Just as a parent might give their child a toy for doing well, God gives us blessings as a sign of His approval. God has always been interested in blessing His people. This is good news because it means we can actively participate in our blessings.
Genesis 22 is a puzzling chapter where we can ask many questions about why, what, and how? However, while it’s easy to read the story of Abraham and Isaac and think that God was asking for something ridiculous, that obedience to Him is more important than anything else, we must remember God’s faithfulness and mercy. Ultimately, Abraham was blessed abundantly for his obedience, even though it didn’t make logical sense at the time. We can trust that if we obey God, even when it doesn’t make sense, He will be faithful to bless us in ways we could never have imagined.
In John 14:21, Jesus said, “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”
When we think of blessings, we often think of things like good health, a comfortable home, or a loving family. And while these are all wonderful blessings, they are not the only ones. The Lord has promised us countless blessings if we are obedient to Him. We can obey God and trust Him to pour His blessings on us. Obedience is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we obey God, we can be confident that He will bless us in ways we never imagined.
We may not always see it, but God is interested in blessing us beyond good health, provision, and protection. He is interested in blessing us with spiritual blessings, as Apostle Paul mention in Ephesians 1:3-9. These are the kinds of blessings that come from a relationship with Him and that can’t be taken away by anyone or anything. They are the blessings we can count on no matter what life throws our way. Amen. Romans 5:19 say, “For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.”
Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for the great sacrifice through obedience on the cross, which brings salvation to save us from sin.
2. Holy Spirit, help me to obey God to the fullness of my heart.
3. Ephesians 6:12; Every power of disobedience in me, detaining my blessing and progress, I command you to lose your hold and perish now by fire in Jesus’ name. Amen.
