Identity: Are You Serving From Acceptance or for Acceptance?

“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” Romans 8:15-16

Are you serving from acceptance or for acceptance? Imagine a majestic tree, its roots deeply embedded in rich soil. Just as a tree draws nourishment from the earth, we too thrive when we are rooted in our identity as beloved children of God. Like the voice from heaven at Jesus’ baptism declaring, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased,” we are affirmed before we take any steps. Our worth is not contingent on our accomplishments but is anchored in the truth of who we are in Him.

Remember, “We wear no crowns of gold, yet we are a royal priesthood when our prayers become bridges, and our lives become altars of mercy.” This divine identity shifts our focus from striving for acceptance to flourishing in our unique calling. Picture this: pursuing your passions is like branches of a tree reaching towards the sun, not because they fear the darkness but because they are confident in their purpose.

1 Peter 2:9-10 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Just as fruit reflects the quality of its tree, our actions mirror the identity we embrace. Romans 8:15-16 invites us to embrace our inheritance, saying, “The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.” Our lives become a canvas of His grace, expressing the beauty of our Creator. When we grasp our identity, we realize we are masterpieces created for good works, as Ephesians 2:10 beautifully states.

Each morning serves as a reminder that we hold a divine passport granting us access to a life anchored in acceptance. The world may offer countless identities, but rooted in Christ, we know whose we are. As we journey through life, let us focus our energies on expressing love and kindness, knowing our roots provide the sustenance we need. Amen. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Amen.

Prayer for the Day!

Heavenly Father, help us recognize our identity in You and ground ourselves in Your love. May we serve from a place of acceptance, finding joy and fulfillment in our divine purpose. Lead us to flourish as we carry Your light into the world. In Jesus name. Amen.
