“When a sinful woman from that town learned that Jesus was dining there, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume.” Luke 7:37
In the depths of my being lies an alabaster box filled with the essence of my gratitude and adoration, akin to the precious ointment Mary lavished upon Jesus’ feet. “Then Mary took a pound of spikenard ointment, which was very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus…” (John 12:3). This act symbolizes the depth of our worship when we pour out our own alabaster box onto Jesus, breaking open our hearts in surrender.
Imagine if your life were an alabaster box; within it are your experiences, dreams, sorrows, and joys—the fragrance of your existence. The moment you choose to share this fragrance with Jesus is reminiscent of Mary’s devotion. “For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ…” (2 Corinthians 2:15).
Song of Solomon 1:3 says, “The fragrance of your perfume is pleasing; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens adore you.”
Ponder on a gardenia softly unfolding its petals at dawn—it emits a fragrance that was once contained but now enriches the air around it. Such ought to be our praise, confined not in our hearts but released as a beautiful aroma unto God. Our alabaster box carries more than just oil; it holds stories, tears, laughter – all forms of praise waiting to be poured out at Christ’s feet.
Let us walk in Mary’s footsteps, allowing every action to echo her humble yet profound declaration of love and submission. As she did with her physical alabaster box, we do spiritually with ours. Every day presents a new opportunity for us to break open our reserves and let the purity of our worship flow directly into God’s heart; this is how we keep our relationship with Him vibrant and alive. Amen. 1 Corinthians 1:25 says, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” Amen.
Prayer for the Day!
Within the sacred vessel of my heart, akin to the Alabaster Box, I kneel before you, Lord Jesus, offering the essence of my adoration. It flows freely, anointing your feet with every drop of gratitude and reverence within me. Just as Mary once poured her precious oil from her alabaster box, symbolizing a fragrance of complete surrender and deep devotion, so too do I lay down my praises at your holy feet. Amen.
