“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
In the heart of the early church, we find the inspiring story of Priscilla and Aquila, who recognized the potential in Apollos. This eloquent man was fervent in spirit yet lacked the fullness of the truth. Instead of criticism, Priscilla and Aquila stepped forward with grace, mentoring him in the ways of God (Acts 18:24-28). Their actions remind us that true correction comes from a place of love, as stated in Proverbs 27:17: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
When we embrace feedback and encouragement, our spirits awaken, and our faith deepens. Ephesians 4:15-16 teaches us the power of speaking the truth in love, enabling the growth of the body of Christ as each part does its work. Just like Apollos, we must remain open to guidance. We grow not in isolation but in connection with others striving toward a common goal.
Ephesians 4:15-16 says, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Remember, “Correction is the kindness hand that shapes the soul; when iron meets iron, it forges strength in kindness.” In other words, iron builds iron; when we allow others to speak into our lives, we invite the Holy Spirit to mold us into the people we are meant to be. Feedback fuels growth, and every moment of refinement is a step closer to the reflection of Christ in our character.
As we walk this faith-filled path, let our hearts be attuned to the voices of wise mentors. Remember, words have the power to uplift or diminish; May we cultivate an environment where encouragement flourishes and correction is viewed as a blessing. Amen. Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Amen.
