“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
Have you ever noticed the profound peace that comes from truly listening? In our fast-paced world, it can often be challenging to quiet the noise and tune into what matters. Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). This verse invites us into a deeper relationship through stillness. There is tremendous power in allowing ourselves to pause and listen to God’s voice. A wise friend once told me that clarity often comes not in moments of busyness but during times of silence.
Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16), setting an example for us to follow. Through prayer, we open a channel of communication with our Creator, seeking guidance as He whispers direction and wisdom into our hearts. Think about the story of Elijah on Mount Horeb; God wasn’t in the wind, earthquake, or fire but came as a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:11-12). We must learn, like Elijah, to recognize His voice amidst life’s chaos.
1 Samuel 3:10 says, “The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Prayer isn’t merely speaking; it’s also a time of listening and being present with God. As someone once said, Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen. Consider how Samuel responded when called by the Lord: Speak, for your servant is listening (1 Samuel 3:10). Can we honestly say we’re ready — truly prepared — to listen when He calls upon us?
By intentionally seeking God’s presence through prayer and reflection, we embrace His guidance in our daily lives. Proverbs 3:6 encourages us to acknowledge Him in all our ways so that He will direct our paths. It’s sometimes overwhelming to make decisions on our strength without divine insight! But remember that God’s plans are higher than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Amen.
Prayer for the day!
Almighty Father, thank You for being ever-present with wisdom sufficient for today’s challenges ahead! Help us cultivate ears attentive enough solely fixed toward Your truth above worldly distractions. In Jesus’ name. Amen
