Lord, Grant Me Eyes to See, Ears to Hear!
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14
In a world overflowing with information, it’s vital to distinguish between media messages and the profound truths of the Gospel. Just as a counterfeit-bill detector can discern real currency from fakes, we are called to develop our spiritual discernment. The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 5:14 that “solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” This maturity empowers us to navigate today’s messages with wisdom.
Consider the story of Paul confronting the fortune-teller girl in Acts 16. Despite her claims, her spirit was not aligned with God’s truth. Paul, discerning her true nature, rebuked her, showcasing the necessity of spiritual insight. That is why we are reminded in 1 John 4:1 to test the spirits and ensure they align with God’s Word. This reminds us that not every voice we hear reflects divine intent; some may seek to lead us astray.
1 John 4:1 says, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Remember, “Spiritual discernment is not seeing more, but seeing through; not hearing louder, but hearing beneath.” Therefore, let’s pray that God grant us the “Eyes to see, and ears to hear.” Let this be our daily aspiration in every aspect of our lives. Whether we are consuming media, engaging in conversation, or studying Scripture, let us seek wisdom as Dr. Charles Stanley highlights that, “Discernment is wisdom in action.”
This journey requires us to engage our hearts and minds deeply. Remember, “When love is your lens and truth your tuning fork, what you see sharpens and what you hear rings clean.” Such a foundation not only protects us but also leads us toward fruitful relationships that reflect the light of Christ. Philippians 1:9-10 says, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.” Amen.
Prayer for the day!
Heavenly Father, thank You for granting us sharp senses to detect truth from error. Brethren, I pray for you; may the Lord grant you sharp senses to detect truth from error. Help you to discern His voice amidst the clamor of the world; to know the Shepherd’s whisper from the stranger’s call; to love the light even when it exposes, and to welcome correction as a friend. May your hearts be steady, not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, but anchored in the Word that cannot be shaken. Let your minds be renewed, your affections purified, your wills aligned with His good pleasure. May the Spirit train your senses, that by constant practice you may distinguish the holy from the hollow, the eternal from the urgent, the pure from the merely popular. In Jesus name. Amen.
