“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Imagine for a moment that your heart is a megaphone, one designed to broadcast kindness to the world around you. With each act of love, the volume cranks up, sending ripples of compassion through the lives of those who hear it. The call to love deeply and intentionally resonates through Scripture, urging us to amplify our compassion in tangible ways, just as 1 John 3:18 reminds us: “Let us not love in word or talk but indeed and in truth.”
This week, consider choosing one person — perhaps an estranged friend or a neighbor you’ve had misunderstandings with — and focus your energy on praying for them or doing something kind for them. In doing so, you embody Jesus’ command in John 13:34-35, where He tells us to love one another just as He has loved us. This isn’t about changing their hearts — it’s about opening yours wider.
John 13:34-35 says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan. In a time when social barriers were stiff, one man chose compassion over prejudice. By taking action, he didn’t just offer help; he demonstrated what it truly means to love as a verb. Just as he stepped outside his comfort zone, we too are encouraged to approach those who may seem distant. Our genuine concern can become a bridge to connection.
Empathy isn’t merely a sentiment; it’s a calling that requires us to step into others’ shoes. As St. Francis eloquently stated, “Preach the gospel at all times; use words if necessary.” Our actions speak volumes when we prioritize love and understanding. With each supportive gesture, we elevate the volume of compassion, creating an atmosphere that invites others to experience the warmth of genuine care. Amen. 1 John 3:18 says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Amen
Prayer for the Day!
Holy Spirit, we invite you to guide our hearts as we pray. Lord, help us to amplify love in our lives. Teach us to extend compassion to those we find difficult, and may our actions reflect Your kindness. Strengthen our hearts to take steps of love, so that the world may know we are Your disciples. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
